RICHARD BROWN, composer, was for many years the London Music Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is also Composer/Music Director of many children's television programmes, including Playschool, Playdays, Fingermouse, Thinkabout Science and The Wall Game. He has written over 200 children's songs, some of which are available on cassette (Songs from Children's Television). Richard was Musical Director of Classical Road Show from 1998 – 2001.

Richard began his musical career as a chorister at Exeter Cathedral, later studying at Dartington College of the Arts, then at the Guildhall School of Music. His compositions include sacred music, such as his Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis first performed at Salisbury Cathedral and "I May Speak in Tongues of Men", commissioned by Winchester Cathedral.

His prolific output includes much television incidental music (Bergerac, King & Castle), scores for Royal Shakespeare Company productions (Chekhov's Three Sisters, Gorky's Barbarians), ballet music (Tamino's Quest) and a recent musical, Once Bitten.

Richard lived near Cranleigh, with his wife and daughter but emigrated to Australia in 2001. Before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, he was Music Director and Composer for many productions at the Thorndike Theatre, Leatherhead and the Redgrave Theatre, Farnham.
